A NEW ORGANIZATION PERFECTED
An adjourned meeting for the purpose of perfecting the organization of a new Agricultural Society, was held in the rooms of the Richland County Mutual Insurance Company, on last Saturday, May 8th. Robert Darling, as President pro tem, called the meeting to order, and J.W. Myers acted as Secretary.
After some discussion as to the necessity of having an Agricultural Society in Richland County, and the propriety of organizing at once, so that a Fair could be arranged for this year, a committee consisting of M. McDermott, Henry Cline, and J. Hade was appointed to select a ticket for officers, and they presented to the meeting the following names:
President - S.B. Sturges
Vice-President - Robert Darling
Treasurer - M.E. Douglas
Secretary - J.W. MyersThe report of the committee was received, and on motion, the above officers were elected by acclamation.
A committee of three, consisting of Wm. Rodman, Benj. Morris and Leonard Sheets, was then appointed to select eight directors, four to serve for two years and one for one year. The committee reported the following names:
For two years -- Wm. Darling, of Worthington Twp.; Leonard Sheets, of Madison; J.A. Beverstock, of Sharon Twp., and Henry Cline, of Franklin Twp.
For one year -- Wm. Rodman, of Monroe Twp.; Alex Steel, of Jefferson Twp.; G.M. Sowers, of Troy Twp.; and B.C. Mabee, of Springfield Twp.
On motion, the report of the committee was accepted, and the meeting unanimously elected the above Board of Directors.
The Secretary presented the following list of names of those who had signed the papers pledging themselves to become members of the new association. It will be seen that many of the best farmers and citizens in the county are among the signers:
